Silver Banshee On The Supergirl Show

I haven't covered every piece of news which has been released about the Supergirl show as there are other sites doing a great job of it. But sometimes the news brings me too much joy. For example, it was announced last week that Silver Banshee is going to be on the show later this season.

Here is the post from IGN: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/12/04/dc-villain-silver-banshee-coming-to-supergirl

And a blurb:
Siobhan Smythe (aka Silver Banshee) will enter the fray as Cat Grant's latest hire at CatCo. While she starts off a just "a work nemesis for Kara," Smythe eventually proves to be "a more deadly foe for Supergirl" when she becomes Silver Banshee.

One of the things I absolutely love about the show is that it infuses some of Supergirl's comic history into the episodes. There are characters and plots which are solely Kara's and producers Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler are honoring them there. We have seen Reactron. We have seen a manipulative Cart Grant have, at times, a  contentious relationship with Supergirl. We have a military Lucy Lane, working with her father and maybe being less than impressed with the Girl of Steel.

Now we have Silver Banshee.

I have written a ton about the Banshee on this site. She is one of my favorites!

Sure she started out as a Superman villain.

But she fought the Linda Danvers/Matrix Supergirl too.

She fought the reestablished Supergirl in the Sterling Gates run, Supergirl 48-49! That two issue story was a great piece of Gates' run.

And she befriended the New 52 Supergirl, walking a fine line between friend and potential foe. She basically appears in the majority of that book.

It was enough of a partnership in the New 52 that they got a teamwork card in the Women Of Legend DC Comics card series.

Suffice it to say, the Banshee has become a Supergirl villain. So hearing that she will be in the series is fantastic. And while I haven't seen anything of this actress before, Italia Ricci certainly looks like she fits the role.

I'll say it again. Fantastic!

One of the benefits of having Supergirl "All Up" on television every week is that bit by bit a strong rogue's gallery is being built up for her in the non-comic book buying public's imagination. Literally Berlanti et al are appropriating a whole class of antagonists into the Supergirl mythos that the Superman multimedia franchise (chiefly feature films at this point) have declined to use.
So yeah me happy....these are all worthwhile opponents with whom goof stories can be built around going forward.

I'm behind on the last couple episodes, but this news makes me QUITE happy! I was one of the ones
hoping that Silver Banshee would be introduced into the cast... now how she'll play in the role
remains to be seen. Personally, I hope and still like it if while in her human form she was Kara's friend,
but in her mystical form is Kara's enemy, with both halves unaware of each other.

Between the TV series, the two comics titles with Supergirl, and I hope soon DC Superhero Girls --
what 7 eps in and STILL no Supergirl?! What gives, DC?! -- I'm one VERY happy fan!
